You can expect load shedding to be around until at least the end of August this year

According to Parliament, a major challenge is the lack of advanced technicians at Kusile Power Plant.

Over the weekend, South Africans were left in the dark as rolling blackouts plagued the country. On Sunday, the chairperson of Parliament’s portfolio committee on Public Enterprises, Khaya Magaxa, said that load shedding is likely to last until at last August 2021. The major reason for this, they said, was the lack of advanced technicians at Kusile – a new power plant being built by Eskom. They said that travel bans are leading to technicians not being able to travel to South Africa. This weekend’s load shedding, however, was yet again caused by damp coal, according to Eskom. Although Parlement says load shedding will be reduced dramatically by the end of September, economists are concerned that the crippling power supply will be too much for the already fragile economy to bear.
