Virgin Active has explained how their gyms will operate post-lockdown

June 9, 2020

There is no guideline from government as to when they can open again yet, though.

According to Virgin Active SA, they are not sure when they will be able to reopen the doors of their fitness clubs again just yet. However, they have revealed which measures they will implement when they eventually are allowed to resume operations. This is a good indication of what other gyms might implement as well. Club members will have to pre-book their spot at the gym to avoid over-crowding. Entry will only be permitted if a member has a QR code linked to the booking confirmation. To make sure people keep their distance, every second electrical piece of training equipment, including bikes and treadmills, will be disabled on the gym floor. You won’t be allowed to bring your own gym towel, or yoga mat, for hygienic purposes. Paper towels and sanitiser are provided throughout the gym, and Virgin Active yoga mats are “deep cleaned” after every session. Class sizes will also be reduced to 50% of normal occupancy. Virgin Active is the first gym group in SA to announce its plans for when they can open.
