The centre will focus on research based on indigenous knowledge, heritage and customs.

The University of Cape Town has opened the first even Khoi and San Research Centre recently. The centre is a ground-breaking academic institution that will focus its efforts on studying indigenous knowledge, heritage and customs. They will particularly be looking at these topics from the context of Khoi and San tribes. The centre is also tasked with studying the traditional languages of these tribes. The plan is to later offer a course to undergraduates in these languages.
