Accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Apple, and others were compromised.

Yesterday, Twitter suffered the worst hack in the platform’s history. Accounts of very influential people, like Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and even Apple were compromised all in service of promoting a bitcoin scam that appears to be earning its creators quite a bit of money. It’s not yet clear how the hack happened or even to what extent Twitter’s own systems may have been compromised. Twitter says it won’t restore access to their owners “until we are certain we can do so securely.” To stop the attack and communication that hackers were spreading through these hijacked accounts, the company took the unprecedented measure of preventing verified accounts from tweeting at all. Twitter has revealed that some of its own employees might have played a role in the attack.
