Users can use it to add notes to misleading tweets.
In another move to defeat the spread of fake news, Twitter has added a new feature to its platform called “Birdwatch”. The whole idea is that users can volunteer to join the programme and sift through a range of tweets. When they see tweets that are potentially misleading, they can then add notes to that tweet to give it context or set the facts straight. Those notes won’t be visible to all Twitter users, nor will they affect how people view tweets, but will instead appear on a separate website. The company says it aims to eventually make the notes visible for everyone. For now, Twitter is piloting the idea in the USA.
