Toya Delazy’s latest album drops today

June 18, 2021

The entire album is recorded in isiZulu.

Local hitmaker, Toya Delazy is getting ready for the release of her latest album, “Afrorave Vol. 1” later today.

This album will be rather unique, as it is wholly recorded in isiZulu. Further to this, the album features Young Mbazo, a local band that’s made up of sons and grandsons of the Grammy award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

According to Delazy, her music has evolved over the years and she is excited to share her progress with South Africa. She added that her music still has elements of JEHP ( A fusion of jazz, electro, hip hop, and punk).

She has also added what she calls Afrorave to the mix. In her own words, this genre celebrates our indigenous languages in a rave, can strike a balance, and reconnect us to our culture and to others.

As a teaser, Delazy recently released “Resurrection” – a song that will feature on the new album.

Delazy indicated that she wants to release the new album during youth month to give young people a voice. The album is thus also meant to inspire listeners, while at the same time paying homage to local cultural roots.

The album is set to be released later today.
