Users with TikTok Business accounts will soon be able to access the new features.
TikTok has exponentially grown in popularity over the past few years. It has, however, been missing one key feature that its rivals are starting to promote more and more: online shopping, in-app.
Now, Shopify and TikTok have decided to team up to allow selected users to sell their goods directly on TikTok. For now, the features will only be available to TikTok Business users. Once users opt to use the shopping functionality, they will get a shopping tab on their profiles where their fans can browse their catalogue of products.
“Shopify merchants who have a TikTok business account would soon be able to add a shopping tab to their profiles for the first time ever,” Reuters reports.
For now, it is reported that the two companies have rolled out a beta version in the USA and UK, with more regions being added on a monthly basis to ensure proper testing.
“The TikTok community can choose to shop directly from the merchant’s storefront or click a tagged product in a merchant’s TikTok video, which will take them to the merchant’s online store for checkout,” Shopify’s blog post reads.
It has become increasingly clear that social media platforms are becoming the go-to destination not only for entertainment and connecting with friends, but also for doing other daily essentials, like shopping. Instagram and Facebook have had shopping features for quite some time and WhatsApp Business is also evolving to allow users to simply chat-to-buy.
From what we understand, users won’t be able to checkout and pay for their goods directly on TikTok at this stage. Instead, they can add goods to an in-app cart and upon checkout, they will be directed to a merchant’s Shopify page to complete the transaction.
