This will be done by vaccinating 67% of the population.
On Sunday, Minister of Health, dr. Zweli Mkhize unveiled the government’s vaccination plan. According to the minister, their goal is to secure herd immunity in the country against COVID-19. This will be done by vaccinating 67% of the population. There is a phased plan in place which will determine who will be the first to receive vaccines once they arrive in South Africa. Healthcare workers will be the first people to get their jabs. In the second phase, essential workers, like police officers and miners, will be vaccinated. Only in the first phase will an additional 40 million citizens be receiving the medication. South Africa hopes to receive vaccines by the second quarter of the year.
