This is despite reports that suggest schools might only open in February, depending on the President’s next address to the nation.
Over the weekend, reports started to emerge that suggest that schools might only open in February due to the second wave of COVID-19 infections in South Africa. The Department of Education was, however, quick to give a statement denying this. According to them, they have not received a single request to delay the opening of schools. The Department did make a presentation to the National Coronavirus Command Council on the readiness of schools to reopen. Things might change after the President’s next address to the nation which will probably take place this week. Schools are scheduled to reopen on 27 January.
