SA Fashion Weeks returns for another season

October 6, 2021

Autumn/Winter 2022 collections will be revealed this month.

The South African Fashion Week is back for yet another season. In October, the event will again take place at the Mall of Africa and it is expected that a range of Autumn/Winter 2022 collections will be revealed.

This season, about 29 designers will participate in the proceedings from 28 – 30 October. After the fashion show, the SA Fashion Week Trade Show will commence at the Crystal Court at the Mall.

Among the designers taking part in this year’s event are the six finalists of the Scouting Menswear Competition, which include Marquin Sampson, Refuse Clothing Brand, Saint Vuyo, Umsweko, Vanklan and Boyde.

The trade show will be held from 31 October to 1 November and will include about 40 designers of men’s and womenswear. The ranges will also include footwear and handbags, among other accessories.

But the festivities don’t stop there! From 3 – 5 December, the designers are expected to showcase their work at the SA Fashion Week popup store where the public can interact with the designers and buy their exclusive items.

Lucilla Booysen, SA Fashion Week’s director, has said that she can clearly see that consumers are moving towards sustainable fashion.

“This is evident throughout all the collections, be it the new seasonal ranges by established designers or the entries for our New Talent or Scouting Menswear competitions with feature principles such as waste reduction, low impact materials, longevity and recyclability as well as a greater emphasis on higher quality and timeless design,” says Booysen in an interview with IOL.

SA Fashion Week will formally introduce the participating designers during an online conference held on 13 and 20 October.
