This comes after they still can’t sell alcohol and now have even more limited operating hours.
The Restaurant Association of South Africa (Rasa) has indicated that it is seeking a legal opinion on whether or not they can possibly sue the government for loss of income due to lockdown regulations. Specifically, they want to be refunded for their liquor licenses, which are issued annually. The new lockdown regulations also mean that restaurants have very limited operating hours, seeing as staff need to be in a position to get home by 21:00 to meet the curfew. Rasa says that it is particularly concerned about the fact that government took these decisions without consulting them, seeing as the restaurant industry is one of the hardest hit industries by these new restrictions.
