The premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane is in hot water after she arrived at the funeral of Jackson Mthembu without wearing a face mask. When confronted about what appears to be a blatant disregard for this lockdown regulation, the premier said that she did not realise her mask broke and fell off of her face at the time. At the funeral, David Mabuza, the deputy president, was seen signalling to the premier to put on a mask. Minister of Police, Bheki Cele has asked police commissioner Khehla Sitole to investigate the Mpumalanga premier’s failure to wear a mask in public. He said that a public official is not exempt from following COVID-19 rules.
