Police arrest 41 religious people who gathered to pray.

The police were under fire after a video emerged showing the improper manner in which they affected the arrests.

Over the weekend, the police have arrested some 41 people who gathered to pray at two different locations. This weekend marked the start of Ramadan and many are faced with the challenge of celebrating this period in lockdown. Although the people that were arrested did clearly contravene the lockdown regulations, the police took heavy criticism for the way in which they affected the arrest. In a video of one of the arrests, the police are seen telling the congregants to lie face down and denying them the opportunity to speak or ask questions pertaining to their arrest. A child can also be clearly seen in the group of those arrested. Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, has apologised for the behaviour of the officers.
