Today, most schools across South Africa have reopened for the first time since the lockdown was implemented in March 2020. For now, only grade 12 and 7 learners are heading back to school. Schools in the Western Cape have been open for the past week, though, as most in this province were already prepared to open then. Today, it is apparent that there are some schools in the country that won’t be opening this week, as they are not yet ready to ensure the safety of learners. For instance, in KZN, almost 103 schools won’t be opening this week. These schools are being assisted by the Department of Basic Education to get them ready for reopening, safely.
