Gautrain workers on strike today

October 5, 2020

Numsa called the strike, asking for better wages.

Gautrain workers affiliated to the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) downed tools in protest for increased wages amid a negotiations deadlock. The union is demanding better wages for its members and the Gautrain Administration Service is denying this request. Several workers did not go to work today, but instead went to the Gautrain’s offices to demonstrate by means of protest action. The company offered an increase of 4.1%, but the union is demanding 8%.
