Clicks faces backlash over hair ad

September 7, 2020

Stores have been disrupted by EFF supporters around the country.

Clicks is in hot water over an advert that went live on their website that portrays black women’s natural hair as “damaged” and less worthy when compared to hair of white women. Clicks has taken the ad down, but the EFF vowed to cause havoc at Clicks stores around the country and that they did. All over South Africa, Clicks branches were either protested in front of, or in some cases, vandalised in reaction to the ad. Clicks has since said that a junior employee is to blame for the page on their website that led to this backlash.
