Bonang Matheba is suing a podcaster for half a million rand

Apparently, the podcaster made false drug-use allegations against her.

Media personality Bonang Matheba has entered a legal battle against podcaster Rea Gopane. She is suing the broadcaster for R500 000 after a video of him went viral.

This particular episode of his podcast was focused on the recent death of AKA’s fiance, Anele Tembe. Bonang and AKA were dating before their relationship ended and AKA started dating Tembe. In the podcast, Rea and his co-host were talking about the strange circumstances surrounding Anele’s passing.

At her funeral, Anele’s father suggested that she had a drug abuse problem. This opened the broader topic of drug abuse and those who have been in AKA’s life.

“We know AKA, let’s not hide from the truth. Scoop (television presenter Scoop Makhathini) told us that AKA is on cocaine and Bonang is the one that got him onto cocaine. Scoop told us that, so we know that AKA is into hard drugs,” Rea said.

Rea’s co-host warned him to be careful to make claims that he does not have evidence for, but this had little effect on him and he continued with the discussion.

Shortly after the video clip of the podcast went viral, Bonang took to Twitter to ask fans if anyone had Rea’s email address – probably to serve court papers on him.

In the letter her lawyers sent Rea, a demand for an apology about the statements were issued. Rae did not issue an apology and Bonang’s lawyers demanded the payment of R500 000 within 10 days, after which they will proceed with a court case if no such money has been received.

After receiving the letter, Rae tweeted that Bonang did have his number and that he loves her and respects her.
