Alcohol producers say Easter restrictions are a good idea, but they shouldn’t include alcohol bans

Unless hospitals get full, that is.

A group of SA’s liquor representatives has said that the industry supports calls for stricter lockdown restrictions ahead of Easter Weekend. Many have warned that this could be the spike that causes the third wave in SA. The group added, though, that they don’t want alcohol bans in place, just curfews and limits on gatherings. The representatives did add that restrictions on alcohol sales should only be considered if hospitals have reached capacity. They want to avoid another general ban as the industry has just opened up recently and is still finding its feat. They stressed that another ban could cripple even some of the most established alcohol producers in South Africa.
