This comes after the vaccine drive took a huge blow over the weekend.

The acting minister of health, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, has warned that a stricter lockdown is looming in South Africa as the country took a serious blow with its vaccine drive over the weekend. On Friday, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that a large number of Johnson & Johnson vaccines are contaminated. The ruling meant that 2 million J&J vaccines in South Africa had to be destroyed. According to the minister, the government is particularly concerned about the rapid rise of cases in Gauteng. It is not clear if the president will address the nation again soon, but it does seem like more restrictions are coming – it’s now just a matter of time.
